No Decision Yet In SW ST. Andrew – Julian Robinson

The People’s National Party is yet to make a decision on who will replace Portia Simpson Miller in the St. Andrew South West constituency. Mrs. Simpson Miller retired as Member of Parliament a few weeks ago after being in that seat for over 40 years.

In a telephone interview with Talk Jamaica Online Radio Julian Robinson, the PNP General Secretary, said that the party was yet to settle on a standard bearer for the constituency. He refused to confirm or deny reports that Angela Brown Burke is being eyed by some party bigwigs for the seat. Reports have also emerged that Councillor for the Payne Land Division in South West St. Andrew, the PNP’s Audrey Facey Smith, and former St. Andrew East Rural MP and State Minister is interested in the seat.

Nationwide Radio on Friday reported that a poll recently commissioned by the PNP in the constituency showed Damion Crawford as the preferred choice in the constituency. Mr. Crawford, Nationwide further reported, had also reportedly told the PNP that he’s not willing to enter a contest for the seat. Mrs. Facey-Smith emerged as the second most popular choice in the poll. Mrs. Brown Burke was last.Councilor for the Greenwich Town Division in the constituency, Karl Blake, was also reportedly included in the poll.
