The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has delayed its planned fare increase for its Premium Express Service pending a review.

The increase was due to take effect January 1, 2018.

According to Managing Director Paul Abrahams, there has been a change in the implementation for the proposed rates until the end of March, 2018.

Abrahams says the Premium Express Service offers more comfort than other forms of transport.  He says It is aimed at commuters who do not mind paying higher fares for a more comfortable and direct journey to their destinations.

He is also advising commuters that effective January 15, 2018, the company will be reintroducing the mandatory use of the Smarter Card on its premium service.

“This means that no cash will be taken from passengers. We are therefore encouraging commuters to abide by the rules and apply for their Smarter Cards which are safe and convenient,” he said.
